History of Aguada Fort:

The Aguada Fort was built during the rule of the then Viceroy Ruyu Tawara. Situated to the south of the city of Candolim on the banks of the Mandovi River, this fort was built to protect the Portuguese against the Marathas and the Dutch. This was a reference point for ships arriving from Europe. Fort Aguada is also known as a place of fresh water. It supplies water for the vines used in the vanguard.
